Fort Myers, FL - December 5, 2014 Dennis Sagini, MD (www.saginimd.com), hand surgeon at Joint Implant Surgeons of Florida, presented to the new resident physicians at Lee Memorial Hospital earlier this week to discuss evaluation and management of common hand conditions. This training is part of the new Residency Program at Lee Memorial, which is a Collaboration between Lee Memorial Health System and The Florida State University College of Medicine Family Residency Program. The program aims to provide three years of training for six family physicians in Southwest Florida each year.

“I am a strong supporter of the efforts surrounding this new residency program, and am excited to be a part of the educational process,” said Dr. Dennis Sagini. “This program will allow us to train highly qualified physicians to serve the Fort Myers and Cape Coral population. They have hired excellent staff to head the program, as well as dedicated instructors who have a passion for shaping and guiding the future of primary care in our community."

The idea behind the new Lee Memorial residency program is for many of the residents to stay in the community once they have completed their training. Statistically, over half of the physicians trained in a residency program will go onto practice within 50 miles of their training program. Lee Memorial hopes that this residency program will play a significant role in meeting the primary care health care needs in Lee County and Southwest Florida.

In addition to providing educational talks to residents, Dr. Sagini also offers complimentary educational health seminars to the public once a month at the Lee Memorial Hospital Auditorium. These talks are around topics relating to medical issues of the hands and upper extremities. His next free, public educational seminar will be held on Tuesday, December 9th.

“These free talks are part of our effort to further educate people in the community about common orthopedic medical conditions,” said Dr. Sagini. “In the next seminar, I will be discussing conditions, such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or various forms of Arthritis, that often cause hand numbness or tingling, as well as pain in the hand or wrist. I will talk about the causes and prevention of these conditions, as well as simple, safe, and effective treatment options.”

Those who wish to register for the free health seminars must call (239) 337-2003. Admission is free and opened to the public, however space is limited.
